Too many projects, too many ideas, too few hours — one learning a day anyway

Pi 1.0 ships, and the interesting part is what got left out

Agent tooling changes every week and most of it doesn’t last. Pi 1.0 is built on admitting that: wait until something proves itself, then weigh what it does against the complexity it adds. Earendil says the list of what fell off the wall is much longer than what shipped. For a harness I’d want to depend on, that is the feature.

What I’d actually try: deferred tool loading and cache warming for Anthropic models, then /session to see cost per model and cache use. Pi Durable is labelled experimental; I’d read it, and keep long-running work off it for now.

The story — Earendil shipped Pi 1.0, a minimal, extensible agent harness it says hundreds of thousands of people use every week. The release adds Codemode with native MCP support, extension support for virtual models, deferred tool loading, cache warming for Anthropic models, mid-conversation system messages, a new TUI theme and full-screen mode by default. Alongside it comes Pi Durable, an experimental package for building long-running agentic applications. Both are MIT licensed. (Source)
