Most of the CLI tools my agents call on the Mac arrive through Homebrew, which makes it infrastructure I rarely look at. Version 7 is a good reason to look. Catalina is gone, Intel Macs on macOS 11 or later drop to unofficial Tier 3, and bottles and .pkg installs will need macOS 15. “Can keep working, doesn’t have to” is not a phrase I want underneath an automated setup.
So I’d audit any Intel Mac still in the rotation before an update breaks a build script, and check whether any wrapper I use counts as a third-party brew wrapper, since those moved to Tier 3 too. If the old machine has to stay, MacPorts is what Homebrew itself suggests.
The story — Homebrew 7.0.0, from the team around Mike McQuaid, arrives via brew update. It drops macOS 10.15, requires macOS 11, and supports macOS 27 Golden Gate from launch. Intel Macs and third-party brew wrappers move to unsupported Tier 3; Apple Silicon on macOS 11 must move to 12. Third-party post_install formulas and cask flight blocks are due for removal. A native SwiftUI app, BrewUI 0.4.1, adds a GUI. (Source)
